Travel Resources

Need to book accomodation, transport or activities but don’t know where to start? Check out our recommended travel links!

By clicking on them, you’re not only booking your dream trip but also helping us keep this travel blog going strong. It’s a win-win! So go ahead, click away and let’s explore the world together!

Accomodation

Finding the perfect place to rest your head is key to a great trip. Whether you’re after budget-friendly hostels, cozy guesthouses, or a touch of luxury, this section has you covered with resources and tips for booking the ideal stay.

Trip.com: Your China Travel BFF

Traveling to China and don’t read or speak Chinese? Trip.com is your new best friend! It’s the international version of Ctrip, a leading Chinese travel booking platform. This means you get:

  • Wider Selection: Trip.com offers a much larger range of options, ensuring you find the perfect accommodation for your needs in China.
  • Cheaper Prices: Expect to find better deals on hotels and other travel products compared to other international websites.

Hostelworld: Our Go-To for Social Stays

We swear by Hostelworld for all our travels! Here’s why:

  • Perfect for Couples: Most hostels offer private rooms, giving you the privacy you crave while traveling together. Plus, there are always common areas to meet fellow adventurers – we’ve made many travel buddies through Hostelworld!
  • Reliable Rankings: In our experience, their hostel rankings are spot-on, making it easy to find a clean, comfortable, and social place to stay.

Booking.com: Racking Up Genius Benefits

Booking.com is another favorite for a different reason: their Genius program! The more you book through their platform, the steeper the discounts you unlock. We found this incredibly useful on our South American adventure, where we booked almost everything through Booking.com and saved a significant amount.

Transport

Getting from A to B can be half the adventure (or a major headache if not planned well!). This section offers resources and advice on booking flights, trains, buses, and other modes of transport, helping you navigate your travels smoothly and efficiently.

Busbud: Your South American Bus Booking Hero

Conquering South America by bus? Look no further than Busbud! We spent 7 months exploring the continent by bus, and Busbud consistently delivered the cheapest tickets compared to other platforms we tried. Their reliable service gave us peace of mind, allowing us to focus on the adventure ahead.

Trip.com: China’s Transportation Powerhouse

Planning a trip to China? Buckle up for a transportation revolution! Trip.com is your one-stop shop for navigating China’s incredible infrastructure. Here’s why:

  • High-Speed Rail at Your Fingertips: Forget bumpy buses – China boasts an extensive high-speed rail network. Trip.com makes booking these efficient and affordable trains a breeze, getting you to your destination quickly and comfortably.
  • Beyond Trains: Flights Included: Need to cover long distances fast? Trip.com also offers flights within China, allowing you to plan your entire itinerary seamlessly on their user-friendly platform.

Activities

From must-see sights to off-the-beaten-path experiences, this section is your go-to for planning unforgettable activities. We’ll share resources for booking tours, finding local guides, and uncovering hidden gems to make your trip truly special.

Get Your Guide: Your Ticket to Adventure

We used GetYourGuide to book everything from city tours to wild adventures (like tearing up the trails on ATVs near Cusco – highly recommend!). They’ve got a huge selection, so you’re sure to find something that sparks your wanderlust.

Travel admin

The less glamorous but essential side of travel! This section covers everything from travel insurance and visas to packing lists and staying safe on the road, ensuring you’re well-prepared for any adventure.

Wise: Global Spending Made Easy (and Cheap!)

We’re obsessed with the Wise Travel Debit Card for a reason: incredible exchange rates and worldwide usability. Seriously, this card works almost anywhere, including China when you link it to your Alipay or WeChat! While we recommend ordering it before you jet off, you can also set up a digital-only card on the go. Proof? I set mine up while chilling in my dorm bed overlooking Iguazu Falls – talk about convenient!

Airalo eSIMs: Instant Connectivity, Instant Adventure

If you’re like us and love independent travel, having internet access as soon as you land is a MUST. eSIMs are a game-changer for this! No more hunting for local SIM cards or dealing with complicated setups. Just activate your eSIM, and you’re connected, ready to navigate local transport, find the best restaurants, and stay in touch with loved ones. We swear by them!

Airbnb Hosting: Fund Your Travels While You’re Away!

Think owning a mortgage means you can’t travel long-term? Think again! We’re living proof that homeownership can actually help you travel longer. By renting out our place on Airbnb while we were exploring the world, we were able to not only cover our mortgage but also generate extra income to fund our adventures! It’s a fantastic way to make your biggest financial commitment work for you, not against you.

Part of the Three Bays (三湾) walk in Kanas. It’s the furthest bay from the tourist centre, so most people start from the side closest to the village and leave it for last.
