How do you get to Tiger Leaping Gorge from Lijiang using WeChat?
The best way to book is through the WeChat mini-program. If you are wondering how to get to tiger leaping gorge from lijiang without a private driver, follow these steps:
- Save the QR code image provided in this post to your phone gallery.
- Open WeChat and select the “+” icon in the top right.
- Choose “Scan” and select the image from your album.

If you prefer to speak with someone, add the provider’s WeChat ID: tubuzhitongche. They can assist with lijiang to tiger leaping gorge bus queries and luggage logistics.
Note for non-Chinese readers: The app is all in Chinese and so make sure you use translate. They will contact you via WeChat to confirm pick up details so make sure you let them know you’re an English speaker and ask if they can communicate in writing via message.

Where should you stay and how does luggage storage work?
If you are trekking the Upper Route over 2 days, you can arrange luggage storage directly through your pin che provider. Historically, luggage was stored at Teacher Zhang’s Inn (香格里拉中峡张老师客栈). As of mid-2025, the storage point is now a local convenience store at the end of the trail.
This is a free service. The driver drops you at the trailhead in the morning and takes your bags to the end of the trail for you to collect later. There is no official button for this in the mini-program yet. To ensure your bags are handled correctly, follow this approach:
- Add the transfer provider on WeChat: tubuzhitongche.
- Message them to confirm your lijiang to tiger leaping gorge transfer and mention the luggage.
- Book via the mini-program and add a note about luggage in the checkout section.
- Confirm details with the on-bus coordinator on the morning of your trip.

What is it like staying at a homestay in the Gorge?
We booked our accommodation through Trip.com and stayed at Leaning against the small courtyard on the hill (虎跳峡倚山小院民宿) at Halfway. This experience added so much value to our trip.
After a long day of hiking, we enjoyed a delicious home-cooked meal of noodles in broth and hot tea. It was exactly what we needed. The rooms are basic but tidy, and importantly, there is a shower with hot water. The courtyard offers stunning views of the mountains, making it a perfect place to rest before your second day of trekking.

Thanks for all the info! Our hotel in Lijiang did not offer a transfer service, so we used the wechat in your blog.
We went with a big coach to the TLG. There was a luggage stop where you could leave your big bags/suitcases and where they had lockers. We switched to a car there and were brought to the start of the upper trail (Naxi Family Guesthouse).
Going back at the end of the trail (from Zhang’s) you pass the luggage stop when you go back to Lijiang, but also when you go on to Shangri-la. We started in Lijiang and ended in Shangri-la.
Thanks for the detailed update! It’s great to hear the WeChat booking worked well for you. The luggage stop with lockers sounds like a convenient option, especially with the change from Teacher Zhang’s Inn. Your route from Lijiang to Shangri-La via the Upper Trail and Middle Gorge offers valuable insights for fellow travelers. Appreciate you sharing your experience!
Hi! We booked our transfer from Lijiang to Tiger Leaping Gorge and then to Shangri-la in April 2025 using the miniprogram in WeChat. I just wanted to thank you for the recommendation. It worked like a charm! The bus picked us from Lijiang Ancient City, near the northern gate. We left our luggage at a convenience store before reaching the TGL. We did the Upper Trail hike on the first day, slept near Halfway house, and the next day we explored the Middle TLG and took our bus to Shangri-la, which first got us to the convenience store to retrieve our luggage (apparently they no longer store the luggage at Teacher’s Zhang). So, thanks again!
Thanks so much for sharing your experience! I’m glad the WeChat miniprogram worked well and that everything went smoothly with your hike and transfer. Great tip about the luggage storage change too—super helpful update!
My accomondation in Lijiang didn’t offer any transfer to the TLG, i’m really glad to have stumled across your recommondation!! Pickup in Lijiang, luggage storage in a supermarket and retrieving it on the way back to Shangri-la went really smooth! To anyone wanting to hike the whole upper trail, just make sure to tell the driver at the luggage stop that you want to do it from the very beginning, i got dropped off with everyone else at half of it at tea horse guesthouse (i didn’t even know that that was an option, accidentally tested it for y’all) The driver propably mentioned it in chinese, I just didn’t understand a single word :)
Omg hahaha oh no, it must have been a surprise to end up starting at tea horse guesthouse! Though on the bright side you missed the 28 bends. I’m glad the transfer went well! It can be hard when you’re an English speaker navigating China so happy that our blog helped! :D
