Wanning Itinerary: Shimei Bay and Shenzhou Peninsula

Jan. 04, 2026 / Asia+ China+ Hainan

The Wanning Day Trip Guide: Shimei Bay, Qiaohai Pasture, and Shenzhou Peninsula provides a complete Wanning day trip itinerary for travelers exploring Hainan. This guide covers transportation, costs, and key activities in Wanning. This day trip occurred on 4 January 2026 as part of a larger Hainan Island trip from 19 December 2025 to 5 January 2026.

Peak season for Hainan is spring or autumn. Visiting in late December and early January is excellent. The weather is mild. Crowds are manageable. This time of year is perfect for outdoor activities without extreme heat. We were quite happy with everything during this season.

What is the best Shimei Bay itinerary?

Shimei Bay offers wide sandy beaches and clear water. We spent the morning quad biking along the shore and finding quiet spots to drive. Local development projects and police presence were visible near the merchant areas, creating tension, but the beach itself remained beautiful.

  • Rent a quad bike at Shimei Bay for 150¥ for 30 minutes.
  • Drive the quad bike along Shimei Bay beach to find quiet areas.
  • Visit Phoenix Jiuli Bookhouse for coffee and photography.

Didi Drop-off: Phoenix Jiuli Bookhouse Address: 石梅湾凤凰九里书屋

Where is the best Wanning day trip itinerary viewing platform?

The viewing platform provides a high vantage point for coastal views. We found a merchant selling coconuts secretly from a scooter and a pink campervan operating as a hidden cafe. Sitting on the cliff edge with soft-serve ice cream was a highlight of our Wanning day trip itinerary.

![Alt text: A pink campervan cafe parked near the Shimei Bay viewing platform cliff edge.]

  • Buy a fresh coconut for 7¥ from local scooter merchants.
  • Find the pink campervan for coffee and strawberry soft-serve ice cream.
  • Use the tables and chairs at the cliff edge to view the ocean.

Didi Drop-off: Shimei Bay Viewing Platform Address: 石梅湾观景亭

Beat the tropical Hainan heat with a quick stop for some fresh soft-serve ice cream along the scenic coastal road.

Why include Qiaohai Pasture in your Wanning day trip itinerary?

Qiaohai Pasture is a peaceful inland destination. We enjoyed the short walk to the wetlands to watch ducks and take photos with a small windmill. We even stopped for pictures with local cows on the way back to the road.

  • Walk five minutes from the main road to reach Qiaohai Pasture.
  • Use the wooden platforms to view Qiaohai Pasture wetlands and ducks.
  • Take photos of the Qiaohai Pasture windmill and resident cows.

Didi Drop-off: Qiaohai Pasture Address: 桥海牧场

What are the best things to do at Shenzhou Peninsula?

Shenzhou Peninsula is the hub for water sports and dining. We rode an inflatable car towed by a jet ski, which was a bumpy and exciting experience. We also tried the famous Duck Poo tea, which is much better than the name suggests.

![Alt text: A yellow inflatable car being towed by a jet ski in the ocean at Shenzhou Peninsula.]

  • Negotiate prices for inflatable car rides at Shenzhou Peninsula.
  • Pay 168¥ for two people for a jet ski-towed inflatable car ride.
  • Drink Lemon Duck Poo tea at Sea the Lemons cafe on Shenzhou Peninsula for 25¥.
  • Eat stir-fried rice noodles with beef at Laozhai Xiang for 28¥.

Restaurant Didi Drop-off: Laozhai Xiang (Old Narrow Alley) Address: 老寨巷·糟粕醋火锅·后安粉 (神州半岛店)

How do you get to Shenzhou Lighthouse?

Shenzhou Lighthouse is the most popular sunset spot in Wanning. We rented a pink scooter with a teddy bear sticker to reach the lighthouse. The car-free pathway felt safe and offered perfect views of the sunset and well-dressed travelers.

![Alt text: A red and white lighthouse at Shenzhou Peninsula during sunset.]

  • Rent a pink pod scooter for 30¥ for 70 minutes near the lighthouse entrance.
  • Drive the pink pod scooter along the car-free pathway leading to Shenzhou Lighthouse.
  • Arrive at Shenzhou Lighthouse before sunset for the best photo opportunities.

Didi Drop-off: Shenzhou Peninsula Lighthouse Entrance Address: 神州半岛灯塔

What food should you try on this Wanning day trip itinerary?

Food in Wanning is diverse and affordable. Here is a summary of the food and drinks from this Wanning day trip itinerary:

  • Fresh Coconut: 7¥ from a roadside merchant.
  • Strawberry Soft Serve: 18¥ from a pink campervan.
  • Iced Americano: 28¥ at Sea the Lemons cafe.
  • Lemon Duck Poo Tea: 25¥ at Sea the Lemons cafe.
  • Stir-fried Beef Rice Noodles: 28¥ at Laozhai Xiang.
  • Wanning Hou’an Rice Noodles: 18¥ at Laozhai Xiang.

Where to stay in Riyue Bay?

We stayed at the Forest Inn (Wanning Riyue Bay Surf Branch). This hotel is budget-friendly, clean, and a good size for the price. It sits across the road from the beach and stays close to shops and nightlife.

Our favorite restaurant near the hotel was Coconut Inside Chicken (椰小鸡) at Riyue Bay. This was the best coconut chicken hotpot of the trip. The base consists of corn, papaya, water chestnut, coconut shreds, and water from three fresh young coconuts cracked open at the table. The chicken cooks for five minutes once the base boils. We paid 155¥ with a discount and received a free chicken rice.
